The Racing Point team has just confirmed that the German driver Nico Hülkenberg will replace Sergio Pérez in the 2020 British GP, after the Mexican test positive yesterday in the COVID-19 tests.
The German arrived at the Silverstone Circuit very early, but in order to enter, he had to take all the exams and comply with the Formula 1 biosafety protocols.
After competing until last year in F1 with Renault, the Bavarian driver’s super license was active. The opposite is the case with the Mexican Esteban Gutiérrez, who was another candidate to replace his compatriot, especially since he was the Mercedes reserve driver, brand of Racing Point power units.
The team’s decision when choosing Nico Hülkenberg was the most logical, considering that the German pilot competed with them (ex Force India) in 2012 and later from 2014 to 2016.
