For years, video games have always been criticized for being harmful to health, allegedly causing addictions, violent behavior and social distancing. Despite multiple studies proving otherwise, people still believe all of the previously mentioned data. Well, a recent investigation of the Oxford University explains why they are actually beneficial for mental health.

For this research, the games of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Plants vs Zombies, in which the effect they had on the health of those who played them was measured. These were the results:

“Contrary to widespread fears that too much time spent playing video games leads to addiction and impaired mental health, we found a small correlation between gaming and well-being.

Our results support the idea that online games offer a satisfying alternative to face-to-face encounters at this exceptional time of restricted contacts due to the coronavirus pandemic. ”

According to the analysis, the people who spent at least four hours a day playing one of the previously mentioned titles showed a higher happiness index than those who did not consume this medium. Despite the fact that both games are not of the same genre, the results obtained were similar in both.
