Since its debut last March, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become the game of the moment and if the franchise already had a legion of fans awaiting its version for Switch, the context of the pandemic only increased its popularity. One of the markets where this title was a success is Japan and today the sales it carries are revealed, which are enough to place it in the first position, far surpassing the other Top 10 games.
Famitsu magazine (via Nintendo Life) published the Top 10 sales of video games in Japan so far in 2020 and the figures confirmed that the best-selling game to date is none other than Animal Crossing: New Horizons, title of Switch that after its launch has sold, only in Japan, 5,004,720 copies. To put this figure in perspective, just look at the sales numbers of the following video games on the list, where there are successful titles and one of the most anticipated this year.
In this sense, we are referring to Final Fantasy VII Remake, an exclusive RPG at this time on PS4, which ranked second but has so far sold 931,165 copies in the Japanese market, evidently is very far from what Animal Crossing achieved in Switch. In the same way, the domain of the Nintendo Switch remains a constant and 7 out of 10 places belong to the hybrid console, freeing up some spots for the aforementioned Final Fantasy VII Remake, Resident Evil 3 and Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
