Netflix has announced its intention to produce a prequel series to ‘The Witcher’ to be titled ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’. The series will feature six episodes that will tell the story of the first warlock, who lived many years before the Lyphic civilization fell. Declan de Barra will be showrunner and executive producer of the series.
« As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am more than excited to tell the story of The Witcher: Blood Origin, » de Barra said in a statement. « A question has been on my mind since I first read the books of The Witcher: What was the lyric world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of humans? I have always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science , discovery and culture flourish just before that fall. What vast expanses of knowledge are lost forever in such a short time, often compounded by colonization and a rewriting of history. Leaving only fragments of the true history of a civilization «
Other executive producers on the series include Jason Brown and Sean Daniel of Hivemind and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko of Platige Films. For his part, the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowskiejercer as creative consultant on the series. The writer stated that he was excited that the world of Witcher was expanding, as well as that more fans were attracted to his books.
While there is currently no possible release date for this prequel, the second season of the series starring Henry Cavill as Rivia’s Geralt is expected to hit the channel sometime in 2021.
