Will Deadline report that Netflix has placed an order for a series of eight episodes of ‘Grendel’, adaptation of the iconic Dark Horse comic series that will feature young actor Abubakr Ali for the title role. Ali thus became the first Muslim actor to play the protagonist of a television adaptation of a comic.
Andrew Dabb (‘Supernatural’) is the scriptwriter, producer and showrunner of this series of this series that comes from the initial agreement of Netflix with Dark Horse Entertainment, who have already developed the successful series ‘The Umbrella Academy’ among others.
Regarding the rest of the cast, it will be formed by Abubakr Ali as Grendel / Hunter Rose, Jaime Ray Newman as Jocasta Rose, Julian Black Antelope as Argent, Madeline Zima as Liz Sparks, Kevin Corrigan as Barry Palumbo, Emma Ho as Stacy Palumbo, Erik Palladino as Teddy Ciccone, Brittany Allen as Annabelle Wright and Andy Mientus as Larry Stohler.
Grendal tells the story of successful author Hunter Rose, who at night works as Grendel, an assassin who seeks to avenge the loss of a loved one by leading him to battle against the criminal underworld of New York. The comic series debuted in 1982 and continues to run to this day, with various spin-offs that have been formed from the original book.
