Elon Musk is back at the top.
The Tesla CEO’s fortune rose to $ 199.9 billion after SpaceX completed another round of funding, returning him to No. 1 on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index for the second time this year.
Musk surpassed Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, who briefly regained the title of the world’s richest person this week after Tesla shares tumbled and dragged down its CEO’s net worth. Bezos has wealth worth $ 194.2 billion.
SpaceX raised another $ 850 million this month from a group of investors led by Sequoia Capital. The round values the company at $ 74 billion, a 60 percent jump from August, and helped increase Musk’s net worth by about $ 11 billion, according to the index.
Also this week, Musk invited Russia’s President Vladimir Putin for a talk on the Clubhouse social media app. A Kremlin spokesman said Putin does not use social media, but added that the invitation was « certainly very interesting. »
