Almost a full month of 2021 has passed and the video game industry has had a very important start in Japan, especially Nintendo, as it is the console that dominates despite the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S. The popularity of the Nintendo system has been such that the games for it occupy the first 23 places on the list of best-selling physical games and the one with the best start in 2021 is Momotaro Dentetsu.
The premiere of Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! It has caused a great fury in Japanese lands, as it managed to adapt a game with traditional mechanics with the modern functionalities of the Nintendo Switch. Due to this, since its launch it has not left the first place of sales.
This title closed 2020 with very high sales and has had an equally important start to 2021, since until January 17 it has managed to sell almost 200,000 units. Something surprising if we take into account that it debuted 2 months ago.

Nintendo Switch games dominate the sales list
The Famitsu sales charts (via Gematsu) for the 2 weeks that spanned from January 4 to 17 show the broad dominance of Nintendo Switch in Japan, since in the last week the first 23 positions were occupied by games for this system. It would have dominated the list of the 30 best-selling games of the week if Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War had not appeared in 24th place.
As for consoles, the system that continues to lead is Nintendo Switch, which without problems is positioned week after week in the first place; in the last one, for example, it sold 134,102 units (not counting the 33,494 units of the Nintendo Switch Lite), compared to almost 10,000 of the PlayStation 5, the console that comes closest to it.
One thing to keep in mind is that the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S consoles continue to arrive in Japan in small numbers and remain out of stock.
