Misha Green to take over ‘Tomb Raider’ sequel

After announcing that Ben Wheatley, director of films such as ‘High-Rise’ (2015) or ‘Free Fire’ (2017) will get behind the cameras to direct the sequel to ‘Tomb Raider’, The Hollywood Reporter now reports that it will finally be Misha Green (showrunner of ‘Lovecraft Country’) who will be in charge of the script and the direction of the second installment of the video game adaptation starring Alicia Vikander.

MGM and Warner Bros. had planned to start production last year with a launch date initially set for March 19, 2021, but the ongoing pandemic brought everything to a standstill and WB ended up abandoning the project. Green reviewing a first draft of the script written by Amy Jump, Wheatley’s regular collaborator and romantic partner.

Also starring Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Dominic West, Nick Frosty, and Kristin Scott Thomas among others, the original film grossed $ 273.3 million at the worldwide box office for a budget of 94 million. It is an adaptation of the video game series that revolve around the adventures of British archaeologist Lara Croft.

At the moment the details of the plot are kept under wraps, with Graham King again producing the project through his label GK Films.
