Mikel Landa has once again excited national cycling. The Bahrain rider showed his great moment of form ahead of the next Tour de France being the main rival of Remco Evenepoel in the victory for the Tour of Burgos. The Alavés moved the race being the main dominator in the mountains, but he had to finish off a stage that Iván Sosa took.
Las Lagunas de Neila, famous summit in the Tour of Spain, hosted the end of the Vuelta a Burgos party. Landa, with more than half a minute lost with Evenepoel, he turned the chicken coop upside down in the port and went to leave leaving the Belgian isolated with the platoon.
When it seemed that Evenepoel had to take responsibility, the Mitchelton-Scott appeared –They were to be the Manuela Fundación– to overthrow the attempt of the Bahrain corridor. Landa, however, did not blind in his endeavor leaving everyone behind including the leader of the Austrian team –Esteban Chaves– forming a leading trio with Evenepoel and Sosa.
The young Belgian, barely 20 years old, demarcated and left both compounds and without strength. LandaHowever, he managed to keep cutting his rival at the final kilometer. When everyone was sharpening their teeth for the sprint, Sosa took advantage the weakness of his rivals to launch a definitive attack and take the final stage.
Evenepoel added the first lap per stage of the World Tour in the return of competition cycling, while Landa proved to be the strongest climber despite not being able to finish the job. The cycling season points to great emotions if we continue with these protagonists.
