Michael chandler He’s not contemplating names outside of the top 5 for what will be his return to the Octagon.

The three-time Lightweight champion of Bellator has disclosed that the number three in the ranking of the UFC, Justin gaethje, has refused to fight him, not once, but “three to four times.”

“They have asked him why I fought with me about three or four times and each time he has declined,” the 36-year-old fighter told The Mac Life (via MMA Junkie). «We are classified to two places from the other. He hasn’t fought since October. He needs to make a fight if he wants to get a title shot.

Indeed, Gaethje, former interim champion of the category, has not competed since losing by submission in the second round to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a unification fight that spearheaded the UFC 254 in October 2020.

Like Gaethje, Chandler’s last loss was by the undisputed division belt. The American savored his first loss with the UFC when he was knocked out in May by Charles Oliveira.

«For some reason he and his camp (Elevation Fight Team) are not interested in a fight with me, ”added Chandler. So that’s the match I want. That’s the way it should be, two of the best fighting. I also know it’s a fight that fans want to see.

Chandler concluded by mentioning that he is interested in returning in December. The only thing left to determine is against whom.
