The Mercedes-AMG team officially announced that the Finn Valtteri Bottas will continue in its ranks until at least the 2021 season. In this way, the 30-year-old will defend the interests of the German team for the fifth year.

“I am very happy to stay with Mercedes in 2021 and build on the success we have already enjoyed together,” said Bottas.

“Thank you to everyone in the team and to the entire Mercedes family for your continued support and trust in me. I am very proud to represent this great team and the three-pointed star on our journey together again next year.

The last few years have been one of continuous improvement, working on all aspects of my performance. I’m sure I’m never strong today, but I can always raise the bar. Mercedes adopts the same philosophy: they always want to improve and they always want more.

Ever since I fell in love with F1 as a child, my dream has been to one day become a world champion. I’m in the fight for the title this year and staying with Mercedes puts me in the best possible position to compete for it next season as well.

We are in the middle of a shorter season and I want to do my best in every race we will compete in this year. The puncture last weekend was a bit tough in my fight with Lewis, but I am determined to come back strong this weekend and on the same track, “said Bottas.

Meanwhile Toto Wolff, team boss, commented: “We are very excited that Valtteri will stay with the team for at least one more season. This year we are seeing Valtteri stronger, in terms of his performance on the track, but also physical. And mentally, he ranks second in the championship, finished last season in the same position and plays a very important role in the overall performance of our team.

I am confident that we have the strongest driver lineup in F1 today and signing Valtteri is an important first step in maintaining this strength in the future. Valtteri is a straightforward and hard-working guy who has a good relationship with the whole team. including his teammate, which is not a common occurrence when both drivers are fighting for the championship. I look forward to seeing him continue to raise the bar together with us this year and into 2021, “said the Austrian manager.

Mercedes has not yet confirmed the renewal of the contract for Lewis Hamilton, its star driver. It will be a matter of weeks.
