The financier Gary Gensler will take over the management of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

According to the newspaper, the meeting will take place after the inauguration of Joe Biden.

Indeed Gensler had worked at Goldman Sachs. From 2009 to 2014, he chaired the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Then Gensler conducted research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the intersection of the fintech sphere and public policy. He has lectured on blockchain and digital currencies. In the past, he has objected to comparing cryptocurrencies to the Ponzi scheme. In 2018, a financier said trading Ethereum and Ripple could violate US laws.

In November, Gensler led Biden’s transition plan for financial supervision.

As a reminder, on December 23, 2020, Jay Clayton stepped down as chairman of the SEC. Under his leadership, the commission was not friendly to the crypto industry. He refused to register new products and fought legal battles with companies. On December 25, Elad Roizman became the acting chairman of the SEC.
