Sainz: “I am happier with the car, but there is still work to do”

Norris: “It is a great result, but tomorrow is the important day”

McLaren enjoyed a very positive Saturday at home at the 2020 F1 British GP. Lando Norris qualified in fifth position and Carlos Sainz did the same in seventh place; all this, in a circuit where they have deployed a series of evolutions that have given good results. The team continues with positive inertia and the objective for tomorrow’s race is to get a good sum of points with both cars.

Carlos Sainz (7th):

“It has been a very strong day for the team. As for me in particular, I have had better feelings with the car as the weekend went by, so we have made a little progress in balance and configuration. Overall, I would say there is still work to be done, but I am happier with the car and we are in a good position for tomorrow. However, my last lap in Q3 was not exactly as I wanted. I wasted some time at the starts. cornering with traction, but the seventh is a good starting position for the race. ”

Lando Norris (5th):

“Firstly, the team has done a great job preparing the car for qualifying, because we have had to make some important changes, but we have been able to get out, so thanks to the team for their hard work. It has been a difficult qualification: I have I made mistakes on a couple of laps, especially the first. I lost a little confidence during the first half of qualifying, which is not ideal. ”

“I was trying to find the good rhythm again and I really didn’t do it until the final session. With used tires I have matched what I had done with new tires before, so I felt a little bit more confident riding the new game I had more grip, and I was able to push a little bit more. It’s a great result, especially here in my home race. Tomorrow is the important day, where we have to make it a good result. ”

Andreas Seidl, team leader:

“This is our fourth qualifying session of 2020 and we have managed to get both cars to Q3 all four times. Congratulations to the team here on the track and also to the factory for making it possible, and also to the drivers who have taken the laps when it mattered most. ”

“Free practice 1 and 2 were challenging, but the team worked hard overnight to improve the car, which helped us maximize the performance of the new components we brought to the track on Friday. Both drivers were much happier with the balance in Free 3, which gave us a lot of confidence for qualifying. After Free 3 we had to do extra work on the cars and both groups did a great job to finish just in time. With the yellow flags, red flags, wind and traffic management, there have been a lot of variables at play this afternoon, but the team has focused, worked hard and overcome the challenges. Starting the race tomorrow fifth and seventh is an excellent return and we puts you in a position to fight for good points. Now we need to change our focus to prepare for tomorrow’s race. ”
