Writer, director and protagonist: Madonna will take on all those roles in a film she will shoot with Universal Studios about her five-decade musical career.

The project, confirmed this Tuesday by Hollywood studios, will narrate the artist’s life from when she arrived in New York City in the 1970s, where the « underground » cultural scene was submerged, until she met a mass success in which it has been maintained with infinite reinventions.

« There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell them than me. It is essential to share the roller coaster of my life with my voice and my vision, » Madonna said in a statement.

It is not usual for an artist of his stature to direct the film about his own life as shown in the case of « Rocketman », the musical film about Elton John released in 2019 in which the musician was limited to intervening as a consultant.

While it is unknown when the production of the new film will begin and who will be part of the cast or will play Madonna in different stages, the author of « Material Girl » has made it clear that her songs will have a lot of weight in the film.

« The focus of this movie will always be music. Music has kept me moving and art has kept me alive, » he explained.

To write the script, the singer is working with Diablo Cody, Oscar winner for « Juno » (2007), with whom she had uploaded several images on social networks that anticipated the project.

During a live on Instagram last week, Madonna claimed that the storyline will document her arrival as an artist in New York in the early 1980s and her interactions with Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Martin Burgoyne.

She will also address her award-winning performance on the big screen with the film “Evita,” which she claims led to an awkward encounter with Andrew Lloyd Webber while adapting her musical.

Over five decades, Madonna has sold more than 330 million copies worldwide, holds the record for the most successful female artist, and has been cited numerous times by celebrities and singers of later generations.
