Lourdes Leon, Madonna’s daughter, is the last famous to join the claim that women do not have to be waxed if they do not want to, a path started long ago by others such as the singer Patti Smith, who in 1978 already showed her hair of his armpit on the cover of Easter.
Several decades later, it is still exceptional to see a woman showing off her body hair on a red carpet. However, 24-year-old Lourdes Leon, who debuted this Monday at the Met Gala, had no qualms about putting transgressive poses for photographers, either blatantly sticking her tongue out or showing her armpit well without shaving, a gesture that has gone around the world.

The young woman has already shown off her body hair on other occasions, such as in this selfie with her mother from 2011, in this other photo together from 2018 or even in the campaign she starred in for Converse that same year. Madonna herself has posed in the same way on occasion.
Lourdes Leon is the latest example, but recently in Spain another actress has naturally shown her underarms without shaving in a series of worldwide success. It is about Martina Cariddi, Mencía in Elite (Netflix).
It was Cariddi herself who in the Elite wardrobe tests proposed that her character should not wax, as a sign of her personality, as she told in an interview on SER: “I don’t have a perfect body, I have my curves, my things. , and I want this to have visibility, that it can be seen in fiction, that other bodies be seen. I do not wax and I would love for people to see this, to know that it exists, that it can be done, that it is possible ”.
The triumph aroused the sympathy of many during her stay at the Academy for its naturalness. Sonada was her conversation with Aitana in which she told her that she was not going to wax her legs “because women also have hair” and her partner said that she had not waxed her armpits either. “I have a lot of hair, but I sweat it and blow it on me,” Amaia concluded.
Once out of the program, he has attended numerous events showing off his natural hair, including on the Goya 2019 red carpet, and has also posted photos with his underarms without waxing on Instagram.
“I am sorry that it is given importance to that and not to other things,” he admitted in an interview on The HuffPost. “When I go to a photocall I don’t remember that I go without waxing. It is not something that I do as a strategy, it is something that I have very integrated into me and I don’t even remember. I pose and then I realize, ”he added.

The winning actress has posed at different times with her armpit natural, as in this photo from 2018 or this one from 2020:
At the international level, models like Emily Ratajkowski have emerged as defenders of hair removal as a choice for every woman, as claimed in a session for Harper’s Bazaar’s magazine.
“For me, body hair is another opportunity for women to exercise their choice, a choice based on how they want to feel and their associations with having or not having body hair. One day I like to shave, but sometimes I let my hair grow and that’s what makes me feel sexy, ”he said.
The daughter of the king of pop has also used several red carpets at events such as the Oscars or the MTV VMAs to make a statement with her body.

“I didn’t know people were going to get so mad about my armpit hair; I didn’t know that was a problem. It’s very funny. I had to wait two months for them to grow up. It’s not much, I know it isn’t, but I’m very proud of it. Really proud. Some people think it is very unpleasant, especially in the case of women, but all human beings have it. It’s natural, “he defended on Instagram.
The supermodel appeared on Love magazine’s famous 2017 Advent calendar with armpit hairs seen while boxing.
The Swedish model faced a lot of criticism after posing like this in an Adidas campaign in 2017 – the brand, by the way, has just chosen a model without waxing.
“My Adidas Superstar campaign photo got a lot of nasty comments last week. I am white, without disabilities, with a cisgender body (not transsexual); my only nonconformist trait is that I have a few hairs on my legs. Threats of rape have literally hit my inbox. I can’t imagine what it would be like if I didn’t have all those privileges and tried to exist in this world, ”he came to denounce.
