President Andrés Manuel López Obrador proposed this Tuesday to the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the 31 governors of the country, support a « national agreement in favor of democracy » ahead of the elections on June 6.

« I urge you not to intervene to support any candidate of any party, not to allow the public budget to be used for electoral purposes; to denounce the delivery of money from organized crime or ‘white collar’ crime to finance campaigns; to prevent the purchase of loyalties or consciences; not to traffic with the poverty of the people; not to overlap electoral cheats, to avoid carrying and filling ballot boxes, « he said.

The president affirmed that, for his part, he promises to conduct himself with absolute rectitude and defend « popular sovereignty. »

« I call you to make history together », he claimed.

The president affirmed that the current conditions of the country are « unbeatable » for the establishment of democracy because there are institutions such as the National Electoral Institute (INE), the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Power (TEPJF) and the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Attention of Electoral Crimes (Fepade).
