The singer Lady Gaga will interpret the national anthem at the inauguration of Joe Biden as president of the United States on January 20, in a ceremony that will celebrate the diversity of the country and in which the Latina Jennifer Lopez will also participate, reported this Thursday its inauguration committee.
“We are delighted to announce an inspired group of dynamic participants (…) They represent a clear picture of the tremendous diversity of our great nation and will help honor and celebrate the traditions of the presidential inauguration,” said Tony Allen, chair of the presidential committee of the investment.
Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, will be sworn in on Wednesday, January 20, on the west steps of the Capitol.
Lady Gaga, one of the current musical stars, has been involved in the electoral campaign and asked for the vote for Biden, as well as Jennifer Lopez, who appeared in an electoral video supporting the Democrat with her partner, Alex Rodríguez.
The inauguration ceremony will take place under a huge security device after the violent assault on the Capitol last week by a mob of supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump, which left five dead.
Washington Police Chief Robert Contee announced that more than 20,000 members of the National Guard will be deployed in the days before and during the inauguration of the president-elect, fearing violent clashes.
The center of the American capital is practically militarized and its mayor, Muriel Bowser, has asked not to go to the National Mall from where historically the public gathers to follow the inauguration.
