KTM renews with MotoGP until 2026, but Red Bull abandons Tech 3

KTM has announced the renewal of its contract with MotoGP for five more seasons, so it will remain in the queen class of the World Cup until the 2016 season. The Mattighofen-based brand landed in the category in 2017 and its current contract expired at the end of 2021, so those responsible have worked effectively to extend its link with Dorna until 2026. With the prospect of his good 2020 season, the Austrian firm wants to continue growing in the MotoGP World Championship and become a strong candidate to fight for Grand Prix victories and ultimately for the drivers, teams and constructors’ championship title.

Pit Beirer, Director of KTM Racing, has assured after the signing of the agreement: «I am extremely happy to be able to announce this new five-year deal with Dorna. I want to take the opportunity to especially thank Dorna and Carmelo Ezpeleta, as well as their entire team, because we have had four great years together and they are a truly professional partner in this important sport. After just a few seasons, we have put this project on a very solid foundation, so it is a positive step to extend our involvement in MotoGP until 2026. It is the right decision and what we had to do as a brand».

However, not everything has been good news for KTM in the last hours, since Red Bull has confirmed his departure from the Tech 3 team. As had already been rumored since September last year, the energy drink company withdraws its sponsorship from the Hervé Poncharal team. Thus, the French structure will have to change its ‘war’ colors faced with this new situation. In addition, the team has changed its name and in the 2021 season will race as Tech 3 KTM Factory Racing, so now it remains to be seen what colors Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona will wear in the new campaign.
