Kris Meeke will be at the Dakar 2021. Although his name was not on the first entry list published by ASO with the photos of the numbers, the Northern Irish rider will make his debut in the toughest rally-raid in the world at the controls of one of the PH Sport Zéphyr. For his first foray into the event, Meeke will sport the # 380 number, which in theory means the former WRC driver will compete in the ‘Open’ category in this lightweight UTV. Be that as it may, what is clear is that Kris will have the support of PH Sport, a structure that he knows very well from their work together in the WRC.
Despite the good harmony that exists in the project and Meeke’s undoubted talent, the truth is that the Northern Irishman’s debut on the Dakar is going to be really tough. However, Kris has yet to compete with the Zéphyr in the desert due to the cancellation of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and his experience on this ‘Side by Side’ is limited to the test sessions that he has been able to complete with the team in recent months. Nevertheless, the presence of Kris Meeke is an addition to the test for his experience at the international level in the world of rallying.

With everything, the Dakar is a breath of fresh air for Kris Meeke after a difficult season in which he has hardly been able to compete. Eliminated from Toyota’s lineup one year after joining the team, Meeke’s 2020 campaign has been reduced to the Legend Bocules rally in Bastogne, proof that he won with Seb Marhsall. Although it is true that he has also participated in some tests with Skoda Motorsport during the summer, his participation in the Dakar means returning to action. A participation with the PH Sport UTV that he will share with the experienced co-pilot Wouter Rosegear.
