Tuesday, July 28, 2020 was the last day of the trial between Johnny Depp and The Sun magazine. While no date has yet been given for the judgment, the comedian could win a lot of money if he wins.
After three long weeks of trial during which Johnny Depp’s intimate life has been widely exposed, it finally ended on Tuesday July 28, 2020. As a reminder, the High Court of London must decide in favor of the actor or the magazine The Sun. The famous actor decided to sue the tabloid for libel after he accused him of domestic violence against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. The latter spoke on the last day of trial in court, declaring that it had been painful to relive this rupture and to see its truth and its motives called into question. “I stand by my testimony, and now place my faith in British justice,” she said. For his part, Johnny Depp, through his lawyer, David Sherborne, always denied having been violent towards his ex-girlfriend. “My client had been the victim of fabricated allegations and physical abuse from his ex-wife Amber Heard,” the lawyer said.
While for the time being no judgment date has been communicated, Johnny Depp hopes that justice will prove him right. If that is the case, he could obtain between 300,000 and 325,000 pounds, or between 331,000 and 359,000 euros, in damages, according to information from Liberation. On the other hand, if he loses his case, he will then be considered by the British justice as being the author of domestic violence.
Johnny Depp was able to count on precious testimonies
For the first time, the 57-year-old actor would be sentenced for this type of violence. During the duration of this trial, he was able to count on the valuable testimonies of some of his friends or employees. While his ex-wife, Vanessa Paradis did not testify in person, she always assured that she had never been confronted with a violent Johnny Depp. According to her, she lived a harmonious relationship with the father of her daughter for 14 years.
