The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan approved this week the request of the Kaishi Professional University, a private institution located in Niigata Prefecture, to open and incorporate a Faculty of Anime and Manga to its educational offer.
In a press release (via), the Japanese higher education institution reported that it plans to welcome its first generation of 80 students in April 2021. As dean of the Faculty of Anime and Manga is the legendary animator Sachiko Kamimura, best known for her work on character design and animation overseeing the City Hunter series.
The curriculum will consist of more than 600 hours of teaching in theory and practice related to the world of anime and manga. Classes will be taught by industry professionals such as animators, animation directors, manga artists, character designers, illustrators, and even video game creators, as well as researchers and academics specializing in animation and Japanese graphic art.
Founded in April 2020, Kaishi Professional University also has a Faculty of Business Incubation and a Faculty of Information Studies, for which, in addition to polishing the technical skills necessary for the creation of anime or manga, the plan of career studies seeks that its graduates have planning and production skills related to business development.
Those interested should submit their applications from Tuesday, December 1, 2020, while the first entrance exam will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2020.
