Jan Blachowicz isn’t overlooking his next fight, but he already has his next fight in mind.

The # 1 contender will fight for the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship on September 26, when he takes on Dominick Reyes at the UFC 253 co-main event in Abu Dhabi. It’s a fight for a belt that UFC star Jon Jones vacated to advance to the heavyweight division.

Although Blachowicz (26-8 MMA, 9-5 UFC) recognizes Reyes as a serious threat, the Polish fighter already has a name in mind should he emerge victorious at UFC 253.

“For me it would be perfect, when I win against Dominick Reyes, that … my first belt defense would be a rematch against Thiago,” Blachowicz told MMA Junkie on Tuesday on a virtual media day promoting UFC 253. “It would be a really big thing good for me. This is how I see it in my dreams ”.

Blachowicz lost to Santos in February 2019 by third-round TKO.

It’s Blachowicz’s only blemish in the past three years, a stretch in which he’s been 7-1.

Santos was scheduled to face Teixeira this month, but the latter was forced to withdraw from the event after testing positive for coronavirus. Then, on Tuesday, it was announced that Santos also tested for COVID-19. The UFC did not immediately reveal plans to reschedule the fight, which most consider would serve as the No. 1 contender fight.

Meanwhile, Blachowicz believes Reyes is a game and finds his punch to be the most dangerous part of his abilities.

“I think all you have is standup,” Blachowicz said. “He is a very good kickboxer; its standup is very dangerous. Good cardio, very strong. If you knock him down, he stands up very well, so it will be the most dangerous, his standing game.

Despite respecting his style, Blachowicz said he plans to wear something his opponent won’t bring to the table.
