Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s Super Bowl halftime show received multiple Emmy nominations. The « Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show Starring Jennifer Lopez And Shakira » got four nominations, including best variety special (live).
It was unclear if López and Shakira were specifically nominated, but previous Super Bowls singers like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Bruno Mars have been nominated for an Emmy for their performances.
The show too was recognized for his direction, lighting design, and musical direction.
Grammy winners including Pharrell Williams, the Beastie Boys and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails will have a chance to win the grand honor of American TV for the first time.
Williams, who has won 13 Grammy Awards, competed for two Oscars, a Golden Globe, and a Daytime Emmy, was nominated for best original music and lyrics for « Letter to My Godfather » from « The Black Godfather, » a Netflix documentary about music executive Clarence Avant. He shares the nomination with his Neptunes producing partner, Chad Hugo.

They measure Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails (« Watchmen »), producer and singer Labrinth (« Euphoria ») and singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson (« Little Fires Everywhere »).
Reznor and Ross have won both the Oscar and the Grammy. For their work on « Watchmen, » they received a second Emmy nomination for Best Musical Composition for a Limited Series, Movie, or Special. Grammy nominee Labrinth, who has produced for Beyoncé, The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran and collaborated with Sia and Diplo on the LSD supergroup, received a second nomination for Best Music Composition for a Series for « Euphoria. »
The Apple TV + documentary « Beastie Boys Story » garnered five mentions, including two specific to band members Mike « Mike D » Diamond and Adam « Ad-Rock » Horovitz, who were nominated as producers of a documentary or special no fiction, and as scriptwriters of a nonfiction program.
Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA won a nomination for Best Leading Theme for his piece for the Hulu series « Wu-Tang: An American Saga, » while Childish Gambino’s frequent contributor Ludwig Göransson – who has won three Grammy Awards in addition to an Oscar, for the music of « Black Panther » – was nominated for best musical composition for a series by Disney + « The Mandalorian ».
Sheila E. and producer duo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were nominated for Best Musical Direction for their work on the TV special « Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince. » The 2020 Grammy gala received four nominations, for Best Direction, Lighting Design, Sound Mixing and Production Design.
« The Masked Singer » garnered two nominations, including Best Competition Show, and deserved mention for actor, rapper, and TV presenter Nick Cannon, one of its executive producers. « The Voice » received six nominations.
Jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, who created music for Michelle Obama’s documentary « Becoming, » was nominated for Best Musical Composition for a Documentary Series or TV Special.
