The Russian has been linked to one of the two Haas seats for next year.
Robert Shwartzman dreams of becoming an official Formula 1 driver next year. The reigning Formula 3 champion has been linked to the Haas team in recent days, but he is clear that to draw the attention of the Gran Circo structures, what he must do is work hard and score good results in the remainder of 2020.
Shwartzman is in fourth place in Formula 2 behind his Prema teammate Mick Schumacher, who currently leads the championship. Both he and the German – members of the Ferrari Young Drivers Academy – have been linked to Formula 1, the Russian to Haas and his teammate to Alfa Romeo.
Of course, Robert assures that the two of them are not the only ones who want to be in the Great Circus next year, and therefore, they have to demonstrate their potential both on and off the track so that they finally opt for them.
“We are not just two drivers to get into Formula 1. All the drivers who are in Formula 2 today want to get to Formula 1. From my point of view, I just have to get good results and show that I have a team commitment “, Shwartzman has recognized in words collected by the German means Auto Bild.
Shwartzman needs the mandatory 40 points to obtain the Superlicense for next year, and at the moment, he has 27 to win the Toyota Racing Series and be third in the 2018 European F3 that expire in 2021 – every three years – and the 30 for win the 2019 FIA F3. In addition, Haas has already warned that it had up to 10 candidates to fill one of its seats for 2021, including young Ferrari drivers. Therefore, he needs to prevail over the competition and make it clear that he is a talented and hard-working driver in the remainder of Formula 2.
“I want to show that I deserve a seat in Formula 1. It is clear to me that the drivers who work the hardest today are those who are taking the biggest steps towards the future,” he explained to conclude.
