With Hitman iii completed, IO Interactive is fully focusing on its new James Bond title. Although this project is still in its early stages of production, new details recently came to light that point to a possible trilogy of games by this Danish studio.
In a recent interview with the DR site, Hakan Abrak, director of IO Interactive, has revealed that this new installment of 007 will not be based on any previous story or actor. Instead, the studio has opted for an original narrative with a digital protagonist created from scratch, that is, without being based on the character’s actors. Similarly, there is talk of a unique adventure, which could become a trilogy, with which the studio plans to build a great universe.
However, it seems that IO Interactive has only just begun to make its ideas a reality. Although the studio currently has more than 200 employees, who are surely already working on this project, Abrak has mentioned that they hope to grow and have a staff of 400 workers. This is what the director commented:
“It is very, very special: a child’s dream. Sometimes it’s still a bit hard to understand that we are [haciendo un juego de] James Bond.
Today [tenemos] 200 employees and I hope [tengamos] more than 400 employees over the next few years. So there is no doubt that the Bond deal means a lot to us. “
During his interview with DR, Abrak has also revealed that he had the attention of making a James Bond game for two years. However, before realizing his vision, had to convince MGM, EON Productions and Barbara Broccoli, who have the rights to 007 in their possession. Fortunately, his meeting with the producers was successful:
“Our story, our background to the Hitman universe and our vision of what Bond is in a game format, went straight to the heart of Barbara Broccoli.”
IO Interactive is probably the best studio to create a modern James Bond game. However, there is still plenty of time to see this title materialize. Let’s hope that this year we will have a small preview and, hopefully, in 2023 we will already see a finished product.
