In 2021, Mexico will achieve that 107 million people are immunized against covid-19 with the authorized vaccines for emergency use: Pfizer-BionTech, AstraZeneca-Oxford, and CoronaVa, from Sinovac, among others, assured the general director of Health Promotion, Ricardo Cortés Alcalá.
« In January and until December we will obtain the necessary doses to immunize 107 million people from the age of 16. And we will achieve this through the agreements with the pharmaceutical industry and also through the Covax mechanism of the Pan American Health Organization. We believe that with these vaccines, plus those that are added, we will see the light at the end of the tunnel”Said Cortés Alcalá.
“The more people we get vaccinated, the virus will find it more difficult to search for a susceptible person, to a person who is not vaccinated, who does not have defenses against the virus to be able to infect it. Then, with this difficulty that the disease presents itself, it will be possible to reduce deaths and complications, « he explained.
Vaccination is not enough, it is necessary to maintain sanitary measures
The return to economic activities will not be achieved considering only vaccination, but maintaining « hygiene measures well executed and in accordance with those established in the risk traffic light guideline.
“As long as the risk continues to decrease, older adults who are more susceptible to presenting a serious condition can gradually recover part of their activities that they did before the pandemic,” he explained.
Hygiene measures such as hand washing, use of alcohol gel, use of face masks, asocial distancing will remain even when the traffic light is yellow or green. No minor risk colors, but not zero risk.
« Crowds in closed places must be avoided, they must be properly ventilated so that the air within these spaces does not become stale, » he said after underlining that the vaccine will not be the only way to get involved in their work.
In this year, it also abounded they will analyze the impact of each of the vaccines that were granted the emergency use registry in terms of their safety and efficacy, that is, that they protect and do not cause any eventuality.
Therefore, he said, in indigenous areas they will carry out a campaign through community radio stations so that they are not afraid of getting vaccinated.
Cortés Alcalá clarified that it will not be given, for now, the cost amounts for each vaccine because more expensive or cheaper does not mean, at all, better quality and efficiency, greater or less protection.
On Tuesday, February 23, 511,875 doses of the Pfizer vaccine that requires deep-freezing will be received and the first doses of Sputnik V from Russia are expected to arrive in Mexico tonight.
