Immobile scores as Lazio win, which climbs to fifth

MILAN (AP) – Ciro Immobile celebrated his recovery from the coronavirus with a goal and Lazio beat bottom side Crotone 2-0 in Serie A on Saturday.

Argentine Joaquín Correa scored the second for Lazio, who climbed to fifth place in the table – three points behind leaders Milan, who visit Napoli on Sunday.

Atalanta was even with Lazio in points after drawing 0-0 with Spezia.

Juventus can get within a point of the leader if they win against Cagliari.

The game was about to be postponed due to torrential downpours and flooding in the area. But he proceeded, despite the fact that the ball was barely rolling on a flooded court.

It was the first game for Immobile in almost three weeks after suffering COVID-19, which also knocked him out of three meetings with Italy.

Immobile had scored in his previous six meetings with the club before that and opened the tally on Saturday at 21 minutes with a header off an excellent cross from Marco Parolo.

Correa increased the count in the 58th minute with a shot from a difficult angle after dribbling alongside Crotone defender Pedro Pereira.

Atalanta and Spezia battled in a duel of few opportunities.

Spezia had won only one of their last five games, but almost took a surprise early start when Diego Farías crashed a jump rope off the post.

Atalanta also hit the goal at the end of the first half, with a shot from Colombian Duván Zapata.

The Spezia keeper saved the home team with an impressive double save against Mario Pašalić and Robin Gossens in the aftermath.
