Johnny Depp’s forced resignation from Fantastic Beasts 3 sparked rumors about his replacement in the film. The actor, who is in the middle of a legal battle with Amber Heard, will no longer play Gellert Grindelwald. Although speculation pointed to Mads Mikkelsen as his possible replacement, the interpreter has denied that he has reached any agreement on his participation in the production.
Speaking to IGN, Mikkelsen denied rumors have been circulating about his joining the series. “Oh, that’s just rumors at the moment. So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I’m looking forward to that phone call, “he said. Some publications say that director David Yates has chosen Mikkelsen as his main choice for Depp’s replacement.
Mikkelsen is known for starring in the Hannibal series and for his role as Kaecilius in Doctor Strange. He is also part of the Star Wars saga, since he played Galen Erso in Rogue One. The Dane has also participated in titles such as Polar, Quantum of Solace, Valhalla Rising or Clash of the Titans.
Warner asked Depp to step down from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 after losing a defamation lawsuit against The Sun, which the actor sued after he branded the performer a “wife abuser.” Although later information indicates that Depp’s dismissal is marked by changes in the studio’s leadership, since the new managers want to keep their projects away from any type of controversy.
