At Racing Point they are convinced that Pérez will race in Spain again
In case of testing positive again, Nico Hülkenberg will get back on the RP20
Nico Hülkenberg will travel to Barcelona this week in case Sergio Pérez tests positive for covid-19 again. In the event that the Mexican driver cannot participate in the Spanish GP of F1 2020, the German will return to the Racing Point RP20.
‘Czech’ tested positive for covid-19 after the ‘break’ between Hungary and Great Britain, so that he was forced not to participate in the two Silverstone appointments and his replacement was Nico Hülkenberg – who did a good job on the track British-.
Now, the situation has changed considerably and the Mexican shows signs of improvement. Not surprisingly, the boss of Racing Point, Otmar Szafnauer, claims to be “99% sure” that Pérez will participate in the Spanish Grand Prix.
However, of course the Mexican must test negative in the covid-19 test if he wants to run in Spain again, and uncertainty reigns at the moment. For this reason, Hülkenberg will travel to Barcelona and, if necessary, will return to pilot the RP20.
“I will prepare for Barcelona in the simulator, and then I will go there on Wednesday or Thursday. Then, I will have to wait for the good news … or the end,” Nico Hülkenberg commented on the Spanish GP, in an interview with the German channel RTL.
On the other hand, the German driver regrets not having been able to get on the podium in the 70th Anniversary GP – he qualified in third position -, but he believes he did a good performance and highlights that both Mercedes and Red Bull were in another step of performance .
“It was good. It was not the fairy tale that everyone wanted in the end, but maybe that was a bit daring when you see how strong Mercedes and Red Bull are,” said Nico Hülkenberg about the 70th Anniversary GP of Formula 1.
