We explain the changes that will take place between 2021 and the 2022-2025 era
To decide, the positions at the middle and end of the year will be taken into account
The goal is to save money and balance the grill
Months after its introduction, more and more details are known about the new Formula 1 saving measure for 2021, the limitation of economic development.
This will work according to the team’s position in the Constructors’ Championship. Those who finish better will have fewer hours of wind tunnel to work on improving their cars and the worst ranked will have more.
The new detail is that to distribute the hours of development, the positions of the teams in the Constructors’ Championship will be taken into account in the middle of the season and their positions at the end of the season, according to the Race Fans website.
Thus, in 2021 the restrictions on the development of the car between January 1 and June 30 will depend on the final positions in the Constructors’ Championship of the previous year and the limitations of the second half of the season, 2022, will depend on the positions in the Constructors’ Championship on June 30 of that year.
In this way, it will be calculated how much the teams can work with the wind tunnel and fluid computational dynamics to improve their cars. In 2021 the best team will be able to develop by 90%, while the worst or any new team will be able to do it by 112.5%.
The differences will be more pronounced for the stage between 2022 and 2025, when the last team will be able to develop 64% more than the first. In 2022 the best team will be able to develop 70% compared to the 90% that will be allowed for 2021. The objective of this measure is to save development costs and balance the grid level.
