Switch and use DuckDuckGo, the private search engine it is really very simple. The search engine has been online since 2088, gradually gaining popularity. Finding websites, maps, videos, news and much more, while maintaining our privacy to the maximum and without targeted ads is an everyday thing at DuckDuckGo.
DuckDuckGo is already included in most browsers
Taking into account that, during the last decade, the search engine has gained more and more ground. It is normal that little by little it was being implemented in different browsers as a search option.
In September 2014, Apple began using DuckDuckGo as the default search engine for Safari iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. The same year, Mozilla did the same in Firefox 33.1.
Since then, the most popular browsers today include it as an optional search engine. From Chrome, through Firefox and Safari, to Edge and Opera.
Use DuckDuckGo as default in Google Chrome
We start Chrome and we are going to click on the three dots that appear in the upper right corner of the screen. A menu with various options is displayed. We will have to click where it says “Settings”.
In the left sidebar we are going to click on the “Search” section. At the top we will see an option that says “Search engine used in the address bar.” On your right we can click and a menu with the available search engines is displayed. We are simply going to choose DuckDuckGo.

In Edge it’s basically the same. We open Microsoft Edge and click on the three-dot button that appears in the upper corner of the browser. In the menu that appears we are going to press “Settings” and then we will have to go to “Privacy, search and services” in the menu on the left.
We go down until we find the “Services” section and we are going to go to “Address bar and search”. Here we will have to click on the drop-down menu found on the right side of “Search engine used in the address bar”.

Switch to DuckDuckGo from Opera
In opera it is quite simple. We open Opera and then we will have to click on the “Cog” button in Settings that is located on the left side bar of the screen. Here we will see the “Basic” configuration, we will go down until we see “Search Engine” and in the drop-down box we will have to select DuckDuckGo.
How to install the DuckDuckGo extension
In case switching to DuckDuckGo as your default browser wasn’t enough. Then we can also install the extension called DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials that is available for Chrome, Edge, Opera, Safari and Firefox.
The extension takes care of blocking tracking networks by default. In this way, the companies that are in charge of saving all our browsing information will find it much more complicated. The extension forces websites to use an encrypted connection to try to hide as much information as possible.
It also offers us the ability to add DuckDuckGo as a default search engine (if you haven’t already) and offers us a privacy score for the websites we visit.
