You may share your Netflix or HBO account on some other streaming service with your brothers, friends, etc. It may also be that you need it to pay joint bills with your roommates or for shared shopping accounts like Amazon Premium, for example. In any case, you should always take into account a series of tips to share passwords safely without taking any risk. There are some useful methods to do it

Tips for sharing passwords

If you need to share passwords securely, we had better follow a series of tips that make the process not dangerous for the service:

Don’t use the same than in other applications since the person to whom you are going to give the password could take advantage of it to access social networks, etc. Use one strong password, with uppercase, lowercase, numbers Change the password if you stop sharing the account with that person Share it safely: do not write it in a Gmail email without further ado, look for one of the options that we explain to you. Do not share your password with strangers. Just because you can share it safely does not mean that you do it with anyone but only with trusted people and for some reason, not simply because they ask you to.

Password Pusher

There are some platforms that allow you to share passwords securely if you need to do it through a messaging application, email, etc. What you have to do when using Password Pusher is create a link that you can later send through Gmail. This is the case of Password Pusher, a free web page that allows us to share a password securely with someone. You can choose when it expires or how many times they can see it before it is permanently deleted: for example, with four views the password will no longer be available, or after three days or seven days it will expire.

The operation is very simple: you open the Password Pusher web page and write the password you want to share. Once you have written it, you can choose the time it takes to expire: from one day to ninety days. Choose the maximum number of views for the password before it is removed: from one view to 100 views. When you have it, click on “Push it” and a link will be generated that you can copy to send by messaging applications, by email, etc. It is very easy to use and the service encrypts our password and can only be decrypted by the person with whom we are going to share the link. It is safe, free and very fast.

Password manager

You can share passwords securely with a password manager like LastPass, for example. It is one of the best managers that can remind you of all the passwords you use on each website, service or social network and that stores them in encrypted form. But it also allows you to access a share button. The drawback, compared to other systems, is that both people must be LastPass users to be able to use this service …

To do this, follow these steps:

Go to LastPass Vault Find the password you want to share Hover over the vault page Click the “Share” icon
Enter the recipient’s email address Click “Share”

Lastpass - Share passwords securely

It is important that you put the email address that the other person has associated with their LastPass account. Once you’ve shared the key in question, it will automatically sync to your vault in the app. If you change it or that person changes it, it is synchronized in the other account.

Another option is to share an entire folder in LastPass. For example, if you have a folder of passwords for streaming services and share an account on Sky, Netflix, HBO, Disney … You can have all the passwords in the same group or folder from the key manager and you can share them with your siblings or with your partner if you also have a LastPass account.

Encrypted ZIP file

If you want to share them by email you can use the first step to encrypt them in a link as we explained in previous paragraphs. If not, there are other alternatives like using an AES encrypted document compressor. What does this allow? We write our password in a text file of any program we have, in the notebook. We save the file as a note and take it to 7-ZIP to compress it encrypted. Once in 7ZIP, you must follow these steps:

A window will open with the file format Choose Zip Choose the encryption method: AES-256 Enter a password to protect the ZIP file Save the file Send an email to the person with Gmail
Attach the ZIP file with your password inside

Once you reach that person, all you have to do is unpack, using the password you tell them, and inside you will find the password we need. It is a somewhat more complex step than the previous ones but it will allow you to have double security: that of decrypting the file and the one inside it.
