How to make my car less polluting

If you are one of those who are concerned about the environment, surely you strive to do your bit to help pollute less.

Unfortunately, for the moment, the pollution caused by gasoline vehicles is inevitable and causes air quality to deteriorate to such a degree that the authorities announce environmental contingencies.

This problem is well known in Mexico City, therefore it is necessary to join efforts to avoid it.

In addition to the verification, the experts and Qualitas have identified several factors that can positively impact the reduction of your car’s emissions:

Driving Style: Avoid dragging, accelerate little by little using the most suitable speed for the road conditions. If your vehicle has cruise control, use it on long trips and avoid making frequent stops.

Energy leaks: The sound system, the interior and exterior lights, the horn, but especially the air conditioning of your car use energy. Try to use them in a moderate way.

Size and body: Acquire a car according to your needs. If most of the time you drive alone or with a passenger, there is no point in driving a large and heavy vehicle. Remember that small cars use smaller engines and require less gas.

Oil change: The oil lubricates and cleans the engine, which prevents sediment from accumulating in it and reduces its efficiency, therefore and to extend the life of your car it is necessary to change the oil based on the program of maintenance stipulated by the manufacturer.

Wind resistance: The luggage rack and bike racks offer resistance to the wind, which causes the engine to consume more fuel, so remove them when you are not using them. Similarly, when you roll down the windows you experience greater resistance to the wind, resulting in increased fuel consumption.

Tires: Reducing resistance and friction with the road allows greater fuel savings, that is why it is important to use the tires recommended by the manufacturer and inflate them to the correct pressure.

Age of the car: If you have a car with more than 10 years of continuous use, it is likely to be inefficient, slow, burn oil and consume a lot of gasoline. Sometimes it is better to replace a car that constantly gives you problems and causes you recurring expenses.

Opt for alternative transport: For short distances it is much more practical and ecological to use a bicycle instead of the car, and the exercise that you are doing indirectly is good for your health. Another alternative is the use of public transport, especially if you are going to circulate in the center of your city or in conflictive areas where traffic increases and it is practically essential to spend in parking lots.

We can all contribute to improving the quality of the air we breathe. In addition to checking your car, try to keep these simple actions in mind.
