This is a moving message from Nickayla Rivera to her missing sister, Naya Rivera. The 33-year-old actress drowned on July 8, 2020 in the waters of Lake Piru, California.
A tragic death
On July 8, Naya Rivera was reported missing. The actress and Josey, her four-year-old son, had gone for a swim in Lake Piru before the little boy was found alone, asleep in the boat.
After several days of research, the body of the former actress of Glee was found on July 13, causing a wave of emotion around the world. According to the autopsy report, Naya Rivera drowned. Unable to get back on board the small boat, the young mother would have just had the strength to put her son to safety.
A shower of tributes
The announcement of the terrible news has caused a lot of reaction on social networks. The family of the deceased had thus declared, shortly after the discovery of the body:
We are so grateful for all the love and prayers for Naya, Josey and our family this week. (…) Naya had a lot of talent but was an even more wonderful person, a mother, a daughter, a sister. We have special gratitude to the heroine who found her. Thanks to his friends, colleagues and fans for their continued support. Heaven has won an angel.
On July 25, it was Nickayla Rivera who broke the silence and once again paid tribute to her sister on social networks. In the caption of a black and white photo of the two sisters, Nickayla Rivera made by her pain on Instagram:
My sister, there are no words to describe what I have for you. Next to each other or separated by thousands of kilometers, our connection is endless, our bond unbreakable. (…) I didn’t think that by losing you, I would find you inside me. I never imagined my life without you and I can’t imagine it. My world is upside down. (…) I will always look at you with the same eyes as when I was a child. I love you forever and miss you every second that passes.
Ryan Dorsey’s Heartbreaking Words
Naya Rivera’s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey, who is baby Josey’s father and actively participated in the search, also spoke for the first time on July 26. Very affected, the 37-year-old actor also took to Instagram to talk about his son’s mother, in caption of a photo of the two loves of his life:
It’s so unfair. There are no words strong enough to express the emptiness in our hearts. I don’t believe in life now. I don’t know if I would believe it again. You were there… We had swam together with Josey the day before. Life is unfair. I do not know what to say…
He then recalled with emotion the precious moments they had spent together:
I am grateful for the time we had together and for this trip together, which gave us the cutest, kindest and smartest baby boy ever.
Ryan Dorsey also remembered those moments when the young woman did not want him to make videos of her and assured that she will never be forgotten:
I’m glad I didn’t listen to you because now I have hundreds, maybe thousands of little videos that Josey can keep forever and that will let him know that his mom loved him more than life, and how we all had a great time together as he was growing up. Life is all about good times and bad, but with Josey the bad is a little less sad because a part of you will always be with us. He will never forget where he came from. We miss you. We will always love you.
