Dominican jockey Joel Rosario got his 3,000th win on Friday afternoon according to the Equibase.com portal, after winning the first race of the Aqueduct program, in New York City.
Closing as a favorite in the betting with Hit the Woah (1), a specimen trained by Christophe Clemente, Joel’s triumph has created a controversy on social networks as the announcers of the official broadcast of the Aqueduct Racecourse insisted that it was the triumph 2,999, which was confirmed by dozens of international horse racing connoisseurs.
It all stems from the fact that Rosario’s triumph riding the Sicótico specimen in the 2008 Caribbean Classic is recorded on Equibase.com but not in the New York Racing Association (NYRA) statistics. Anyway the numbers of the rider are impressive. With 169 wins in 935 mounts, Joel is the second rider in the American nation in money produced with US $ 16,463,537. He is surpassed only by the young Puerto Rican rider Irad Ortiz, who with 260 victories has produced US $ 19,275,345.
In his lifetime, including yesterday’s victory, Joel has participated in 16,415 races with 3,000 first places, 2,732 seconds and 2,479 third places. In these victories, the triumphs in Saudi Arabia (Dubai World Cup), in England (Royal Ascot), nor the 1170 that he achieved in the Dominican Republic are not calculated.
