The American network HBO, responsible for hits like « Game of Thrones » and « Chernobyl », is preparing to shoot a miniseries about the search for a vaccine against COVID-19 that will be based on the book « The First Shot », still unpublished.

« The First Shot » is a non-fiction book that the journalist Brendan Borrell is writing and of which little is known beyond a brief description on his website, but that would have caught the attention of the chain to turn the story into a television production directed by Adam McKay (« Vice », « Ant-Man »).

« I’m writing a narrative nonfiction book about the global race for the coronavirus vaccine, the companies that risk everything to win it, the fascinating and sometimes surprising science on which it is based, and the challenges that arise around access and security, « assures its author in a writing in which he encourages those involved to share their stories.

For his part, the director of the future miniseries, one of the first confirmed in Hollywood about the pandemic, works on several projects for HBO that have been paused by the coronavirus.

McKay’s plans include an announced fiction about the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s, another about Jeffrey Epstein and an adaptation to the American series format of the South Korean film « Parasite », which swept the last Oscar awards.

Winner of the Oscar for best original screenplay for « The Big Short » (2015), McKay has excelled as a director on such films as « Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy » (2004), « The Big Short » and « Vice » (2018) .

It has also become a prestigious producer by being behind the scenes in such acclaimed series as « Succession ».
