PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Austin Hays hit a field home run in the 10th as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Philadelphia Phillies 10-9 on Tuesday night.
Bryce Harper hit a two-run homer that tied the score in the eighth inning, and Jean Segura gave the Phillies the lead 6-5 with a solo shot two outs later. However, the Dominican Héctor Neris could not preserve it.
Orioles starter Cole Sulser (1-1) allowed a single by Didi Gregorius, which produced two runs with two outs in the ninth, to equalize the score at 8. Hays then gave Baltimore the final lead.
With a runner in second to start the extra innings, Hays hit a line to center field off Deolis Guerra (1-2). Roman Quinn dived headfirst, and the ball slipped into the warning strip.
Quinn fell off picking it up and Hays ended up completing the lap.
For the Orioles, the Dominicans Hanser Alberto 6-2 with two runs scored and one produced, Pedro Severino 5-1 with two RBIs. Venezuelans Anthony Santander 4-2 with two runs scored and one RBI, Renato Nunez 4-3 with one run scored and two produced. The Cuban José Iglesias 1-0.
For the Phillies, Segura 4-1 with two runs scored and one produced.
