Guatemala beat its records of coronavirus infections in a single day when it counted 311 new cases of COVID-19 this Saturday after performing 1,844 tests, reaching 3,054 in total nationwide, reported the Minister of Public Health, Hugo Monroy.
Of the 311 new patients incorporated into the hospital network, 201 come from the same contact that infected them, clarified the head of the Health portfolio in his message of data update broadcast on official channels of the Government of Guatemala.
The 201 people infected by the same person are contacts of another person who works in a textile maquila in the metropolitan municipality of San Miguel Petapa, who on May 18 had registered an outbreak that, at that time, had reached about 20 people .
According to Monroy, all the maquila patients are being treated by the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS).
Of the 311 cases detected this Saturday, 139 are female and 152 are male, said the official, who emphasized that this Saturday 22 people recovered and four other patients died, making the Central American country account for a total of 55 deaths from coronavirus.
Guatemala also counts more than 185 infected state workers, after the Foreign Ministry reported in the last hours of the positive result of one of its officials, which is being attended by the Ministry of Public Health.
The health ministry itself recognized on Friday night that three of its collaborators tested positive for the virus, despite the fact that a day earlier a source within the Government assured the .
