Government studies fan attendance at ball games

Santo Domingo, RD.

President Luis Abinader indicated that together with the Minister of Public Health, Plutarco Arias and the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (Lidom), he is studying alternatives so that fans can attend ball games in the 2020-2021 season .

The president, who threw the first ball in the game of Los Tigres del Licey against Leones del Escogido, called on the Dominican fans to be patient since the government has the responsibility to maintain the health of the Dominican family.

“We are seeing how we can make some kind of facilities with social distancing, that have special entry hours, special exit hours, because I know the great desire that fans have to be here, we are the first to we suffer it and the easiest thing for the government is to open and have an opening not only in baseball but in general terms, but they have to understand the great responsibility we have to maintain health, ”said Abinader.

Similarly, the president said that despite the pandemic “the country is recovering and will continue to recover.”

In an interview in the cabin of the Leones del Escogido, in the transmission of the game this Sunday, he announced that the Government plans to recognize retired players. “On behalf of the Government and Dominican society, we are planning that for the next few days,” he said.

Abinader, who is a fan of the Águilas Cibaeñas, regretted that his team was losing to the Gigantes del Cibao.

Likewise, he told how he lived in his childhood the different games, both in the Major Leagues and the winter ones, indicating that he collected postcards of the players, in addition to playing in the left field in intercollegiate games.

“Like all Dominicans, I played ball young, many people know that Moisés Alou and I grew up together house to house for 12 years we played ball together, of course he stood out more than me,” he said with a laugh.
