The Spanish Minister of Health, Salvador Ill appreciated the measures that the regions are applying to contain the new sources of transmission
Madrid.- The Spanish Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, denied on Tuesday that there is a second widespread wave of coronavirus in the country, and stressed that the epidemic remains under control with a « positive » evolution, despite the more than 360 outbreaks spread throughout the country and more than 4,000 associated cases.
« We cannot speak of a second widespread wave in our country, that there is not. There are outbreaks, « said Illa at the press conference after the Council of Ministers, in which he appraised the measures that the regions – which are in charge of health policy – are applying to contain the new transmission outbreaks.
The minister trusted that the new measures, especially those of Aragon and Catalonia, the most affected regions, allow definitive control of infections within a few days or weeks.
For this, Illa urged citizens to comply with the new restrictive measures, especially those related to group meetings and nightlife, as well as improving the conditions of temporary workers in the agricultural sector, situations that have generated the main foci .
64% of the new cases detected in the country were registered in Aragon and Catalonia; and 60% are asymptomatic.
Health services carry out between 40,000 and 45,000 daily PCR diagnostic tests and the average age of those infected decreased to 45 years, while hospital pressure remains « low or very low » (around 1.4% of available capacity ), stressed Illa.
Asked about the individual health card on the covid-19 announced today by the Madrid region, the minister pointed out that this type of document does not appear among the forecasts of his Ministry or is collected by any international organization, and acknowledged that he himself does not know exactly what is intended with that document.
