French football on the verge of breaking up

The forecasts made to assess the losses of French football would exceed one billion euros.

Appeals for support from several presidents of League 1 and Ligue 2 in recent months betray a potential disaster that threatens French football. The Professional Football League (LFP) has provided fairly dramatic forecasts in recent days.

This document, reports L’Equipe on Wednesday, estimates the deficit that the 20 Ligue 1 clubs could accumulate at the end of the current financial year at 1.3 billion euros, namely June 30, 2021. For the LFP , the vacuum left for example by the total absence of ticketing, caused by the health crisis, would represent 400 M.

The shortfall equivalent to the sales of players would be between 300 and 400 M. Finally, the abandonment of Mediapro upset the income from TV rights. The sports daily relays the sum of 500 million euros equivalent to the supposed loss in this sector.

Finding a new broadcaster as quickly as possible is no longer a priority. It’s a matter of survival for a lot of professional clubs.
