François Perrodo, between defending the LMGTE-Am title or going up to LMP2

François Perrodo has won his second LMGTE-Am title this year in the WEC after which he added in 2016. The French driver bet at the beginning of the 2019-20 season for return to ‘origins’ after competing for two years in LMP2 and got at the controls of one of AF Corse’s Ferrari 488 GTEs in the LMGTE-Am class, thus competing with Emmanuel Collard and Nicklas Nielsen. A trio of drivers who have had a great campaign behind the wheel of the Ferrari # 83 to get two victories and a total of five podiums that have been well worth the title.

Conquered this second crown in GTE, Frenchman François Perrodo is once again faced with a well-known dilemma. However, the pilot of Singaporean origin has the option of repeat in class LMGTE-Am with the aim of defending his title. However, the regulatory change that has occurred between the prototypes could lead François to the second World Cup category, since Perrodo is drawn to the concept of LMP2 with reduced power which has been adopted for 2021 with the arrival of the hypercar (LMH) prototypes in the WEC queen class.

Regarding these doubts, François Perrodo He noted: «Nothing is 100% confirmed, but the idea is to continue in the WEC with a GTE. It is also true that I have followed with interest what is happening in LMP2. The changes with the creation of a sub-category of bronze drivers and prototypes with less power sounds good, even if the tires have less grip. These LMP2s would be nice to try, but it will be difficult if you don’t commit to a team. The idea may be to continue in GTE, but I do not rule out LMP2. I have also spoken with Porsche and Aston Martin. In the end, costs will be an important factor, but also knowing the team.
