During the day of Tuesday July 28, a terrible road accident took place on the RN2, in the Aisne, near Laon. Around 3 p.m. a heavyweight hit a first vehicle and then a car, which instantly caught fire when leaving the roadway. Inside were four children aged 9 to 13 deceased before help arrives, and the driver, seriously injured. The 42-year-old woman was taken to Amiens hospital with absolute urgency; its vital prognosis is not engaged. According to the prefect of Aisne, she is “the mother of a child, the other three are cousins ​​aged between 10 and 15 years.”

Several witnesses witnessed the accident, including Aurélien, a young man of 34. This teacher rescued the victims, and recounted the drama in the columns of the Parisian, on newsstands Wednesday, July 29. Sitting in his stationary car, Aurélien first noticed a slowdown, then a traffic jam forming, and suddenly heard the sound of a collision, which created a movement of panic. Immediately the young man called the fire department with his cell phone.

In flames, a child “screamed and cried”

About thirty seconds after the impact, the car in which the driver and the four children are started to catch fire. Immediately, people who had fire extinguishers in their cars rushed to try and put out the fire. Aurélien in turn approached the car and saw the “unconscious” driver. After the latter has regained its senses, Aurélien and another man have managed to extract it from the car. “The flames were starting to get on her, her back is burnt and part of her scalp I think,” he added.

Aurélien noticed a child in the passenger seat in the front, and other children in the back. For long seconds the witnesses heard the cries of a child, engulfed in flames. “He was screaming, crying. Several of us were trying to open the doors, but they were blocked. We tried to bend them from the top, but it was impossible. We did what we could”, s ‘he remembered. Despite their best efforts with their bare hands, the people could not rescue the children, facing the growing flames. “Quickly, we had to move away. We could no longer approach the car,” Aurélien concluded. The truck driver has been in custody since Tuesday, July 28, and An investigation has been opened.
