The blue oval firm announced the closure of its manufacturing complexes in Brazil, although they will maintain the rest of the operations in the South American country.
These actions include the Camaçari, Taubaté and Belo Horizonte closure, which are in addition to the closure that Ford had with respect to the Sao Bernardo do Campo complex.
The first two, in charge of manufacturing EcoSport and the Ford Ka (the second best-selling model in that market) will cease activities almost immediately; while the Belo Horizonte complex will still remain in operation for several more months, although not after this year.
Similarly; the brand said that “customers in the South American region will be served with a portfolio of connected and increasingly electrified SUVs, pickups and commercial vehicles from Argentina, Uruguay and other markets.”
Jim Farley, President and CEO of Form; He highlighted that “with more than a century in South America and Brazil, we know that these are very difficult but necessary actions to create a healthy and sustainable business. We are moving towards an agile and lightweight business model by ceasing production in Brazil and serving customers with some of the best and most exciting vehicles in our global portfolio. ”
“We also accelerate the availability for our customers of the benefits of connectivity, electrification and autonomous technologies to efficiently address the need for vehicles that are more environmentally friendly and safe in the future,” concluded the executive.
