Florida This Sunday became the state with the most active cases of coronavirus in the United States, with a record daily increase of 15,299 positives, bringing the total number of infected to 269,811.
The southern state also reported 45 new deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the list of deceased to 4,242. The figures are released at the end of a grim week that broke records in Florida, with 514 deaths.
California, with 11,694 cases just four days ago, had the previous record for most cases in one day. For its part, New York registered 11,571 on April 15, but the current situation in that state marks clear descending curves.
The advance of the pandemic threatens to further compromise Florida’s healthcare system, which has already occupied nearly 80% of its hospital and intensive care beds. According to a CNBC report, at least 40 hospitals have already run out of space for highly complex care.

The most affected county is by far Miami-Dade, which in the last report added 3,576 cases and seven deaths for a total of 3,576 infected and 1,139 deaths.
Throughout May and June, the state reopened much of its economy with some restrictions. Testing has increased, but the percentage of people who tested positive has increased even more dramatically. A month ago, less than 5% of tests tested positive for the daily average. In the past week, the daily average exceeded 19%.
