Amazon Studios has taken over the worldwide distribution of ‘One Night in Miami’, the debut as a filmmaker of Oscar-winning actress Regina King (‘American Crime’, ‘The Beale Street Blues’, ‘Watchmen’).
The announcement has been accompanied by the launch of a first official image, which you can see below.
Written by Kemp Powers (‘Soul’) from his own play, the film follows a young Cassius Clay (Eli Goree), later better known as Muhammad Ali, after his first heavyweight victory on 25 February 1964. The most important of his career, the one that made him a superstar and a hero worldwide. A night to celebrate to share with activist Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), singer Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) or soccer player Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge), among others.
‘One Night in Miami’ It explores what happened during these crucial hours through the relationship between these four men, and how both their friendship and their differences drove their respective ways to become the icons of civil rights that they are today.
Produced by Jess Wu Calder and Keith Calder of Snoot Entertainment and Jody Klein of ABKCO, the film will premiere at the end of the year on Prime Video with the vitola of being one of the great contenders for the next edition of the Oscars.
While ‘One Night in Miami’ It is his first film, King had previously directed, above all, some episodes of television series such as ‘Scandal’, ‘This Is Us’, ‘Shameless’, ‘Animal Kingdom’ or ‘The Good Doctor’.
