Daybreak Game Company, a study run by H1Z1 and EverQuest, was not going through its best moment, since since 2018 it began a restructuring that was reflected in several waves of layoffs. This affected more than 100 employees of the developer and raised doubts about its future.

Everything indicates that Daybreak Game will have a new opportunity in the industry, as it was acquired by Enad Global 7 (EG7), a multidisciplinary firm that recently also bought Piranha Games, a studio run by MechWarrior.

In case you don’t remember, it is not the first time that Daybreak Game has changed owners. Well, it was originally called Sony Online Entertainment. It was in February 2015 that Sony decided to sell this division to Columbus Nova.

EG7 invested $ 300 million in the purchase of Daybreak Game

Enad Global 7 announced the purchase of Daybreak Game this week. According to the details, the deal was closed for $ 300 million paid in cash and shares. It is important to mention that Daybreak acquired Cold Iron Studios in August, but for now it is not clear if it is part of the deal.

“Daybreak is a perfect fit with EG7, we are a family of companies with complementary skills and experience, combined to form a major video game business and deliver incredible games and experiences to gamers around the world,” said Robin Flodin, EG7 co-founder.

The manager highlighted the great variety of IP that the developer has, as it was one of the main reasons that led to the purchase. Plans are for Daybreak’s gaming portfolio to grow in the coming years.

In addition to H1Z1 and EverQuest, Daybreak has games like Planetside Arena and DC Universe Online on its track record. On the other hand, it collaborated with Standing Stone Games for the distribution of titles such as The Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online.

“I am delighted to welcome Daybreak to the EG7 family today. Daybreak is a studio that I have the greatest admiration for, not just for their games, but for the teams behind those games and services. Together we have bold and exciting plans for the future, ”added Flodin.

For now it has not been clarified if all the current members of Daybreak will continue in their positions or if another restructuring process will be carried out, which could well generate other waves of layoffs.
