Ferrari’s disastrous 2020 season could have a somewhat more promising end if Ferrari confirms what it has shown in recent races. Now, the Italian formation is opting for third place in the constructors’ championship.
It will not be easy, as Ferrari has Racing Point, which is currently the third place in the constructors’ championship, to 24 points. But given the improvement in performance of the Italians in recent races, anything could happen.
Especially if Sebastian Vettel continues on the good path shown in Istanbul Park, a circuit where he got his first podium of the year and which has left Mattia Binotto very satisfied. «I think he had a good result on Sunday, at the start, very consistent, good pace, managing the tires and defending the positions. On the last lap he did well, he took the opportunity, it’s great for him. He finished third, very close to Pérez. I am happy for him. There are still three races left, hopefully we’ll do well in the next one.
“They have worked hard trying to understand the weaknesses of the car and preparing it for next season”
“I’m very happy for Sebastian, I think a podium for him is very important, finishing third,” he highlights. «It has been a difficult season for him. I think he has started, at least now at the end of the season, to feel more comfortable with the car and it is giving better results ».
The SF1000 has improved
That Vettel feels more comfortable is a clear sign that the car is now more predictable and competitive, allowing Ferrari dream of recovering a good part of its shine next season.
“It is important that Ferrari is doing well at the moment,” says Binotto. “We knew we had improved the car and, if you look at the last races, we have (also) improved our race positions. The car has become more consistent and a little faster.

“It is fantastic to have these results, looking forward to next year and for the next races,” insists the Ferrari director. Also, in terms of the constructors’ championship, it is not the end. It is encouraging. People have worked hard at home, trying to understand the weaknesses of the car and preparing it for the next season. Those results are encouraging us.
The dispute for the constructors’ championship is in a handkerchief and Ferrari could finish 2020 in any position between third and sixth place. Racing Point, McLaren and Renault will also have options to do so in the last three races of the season.
