Epic Games responds to a Fortnite class action lawsuit by paying in V-Bucks

The players of Fortnite and Rocket League that purchased a loot box will receive a quantity of 1,000 coins in their respective games. This movement occurs as part of a preliminary class action settlement regarding the infamous loot boxes.

According to a report by The Verge, this action is a response to a class action lawsuit in the Superior Court of North Carolina, which has not yet been officially resolved. As you may recall, until two years ago, Fortnite: Save the World and Rocket League offered loot boxes with random content. This changed in early 2019. However, this did not stop a group of people from suing Epic Games, which allege they suffered additional legal damages from the loot boxes from the games.

While this lawsuit and the actions that Epic Games is taking are only directed at players in the United States, the company has mentioned that all players who acquired one of these loot boxes, they can get a thousand V-Bucks in Fortnite and / or a thousand credits in Rocket League, This regardless of the region from, that is, this compensation is valid throughout the world. This is what Jeffrey Jacobson, Epic’s legal representative in the case, commented on the matter:

“For one thing, this is the right thing to do, and we have a very strong opinion about random loot boxes. And on the other hand, we are very happy with the agreement. We hope that our players agree with us ”.

Similarly, Epic Games will have $ 26.4 million as part of the compensation agreement additional not collected in the first instance within the demand. In total, 6.4 million Fortnite players and 2.9 million Rocket League users will be compensated as of today, February 23, 2021.
