COVID-19 : Madrid lifts the closures of 31 basic health areas and seven localities

The Government of the Community of Madrid has lifted the perimeter closure of 31 basic health zones and seven municipalities of the region due to the good epidemiological evolution of the coronavirus. This closure will be imposed, on the contrary, in two new health zones. These measures will take effect as of next Monday, February 22.

This was announced this Friday at a press conference by the Deputy Minister of Public Health and Covid-19 Plan in the regional Executive, Antonio Zapatero, and the Director of Public Health, Elena Andradas.

Next Monday there will be a total of 25 health zones and eight locations with mobility restrictions. 707,000 Madrilenians live in these areas, 11% of the community, and 15% of Covid-19 cases are concentrated in these areas, according to Zapatero and Andradas.

The Executive of Isabel Diaz Ayuso has also announced the new threshold established to impose perimeter closures: 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The Community of Madrid has a cumulative incidence of the 14 days of 426 cases. Other reasons for the restrictions are community transmission or the absence of a ‘downward trend in infections’.

Restrictions are lifted

The Madrid government will lift restrictions starting next Monday in the basic areas of Colmenar Viejo, Fuenlabrada, Rivas-Vaciamadrid and Alcalá de Henares, towns that were completely closed. Also from the basic areas of La Ribota, Ramón y Cajal and doctor Trueta, in the municipality of Alcorcón; The Cities in Getafe; and in Madrid capital at the Pozo del Tío Raimundo (Puente de Vallecas), General Moscardó (Tetuán), and Alpes y Rejas (San Blas-Canillejas). To these areas we must add Camarma de Esteruelas, Estremera, Cercedilla, Los Molinos, Ciempozuelos, San Martín de la Vega and Chinchón.

The Director of Public Health of the Community of Madrid has highlighted the good epidemiological situation in these areas. «There has been a decrease of more than 50% of infections», Stated Elena Andradas.

New closures

From next Monday and until March 8, at least, mobility will be restricted in the basic areas of Vinateros-Torito (Moralataz) and Villanueva del Pardillo. They are the new areas that will have restrictions due to the advance of the coronavirus.


The basic health zones where restrictions are maintained by the pandemic are Andrés Mellado (in the Chamberí district), Aravaca (Moncloa-Aravaca), Montesa and General Oraá (Salamanca) and Jazmín (Ciudad Lineal), in Madrid capital; the Moralzarzal health area; and Getafe North.

They will also stay in the six basic zones of Torrejón de Ardoz, Collado Villalba, Alcobendas, San Sebastián de los Reyes, in the basic area of ​​Moralzarzal, in the basic area of ​​Getafe Norte, as well as in the towns (which do not coincide with a basic area) of Villaconejos, Navacerrada, Hoyo from Manzanares, Becerril de la Sierra, Mejorada del Campo, Brunete, Griñón and El Álamo.
